Hi I would like to find out is it possible to convert my MTB into fixed gear?

    • trbikes
      March 2, 2009 at 6:38 am | #2

Hi … that’s no probs … conversions are our favourite! why don’t you send us an email and we can sort you out … better still, you can always pop by the shop with your bike and show Lynten (the boss guy and mechanic dude) your bike and he can recommend the best course of action …

i just bought a bianchi pista fixed gear online. forgive my ignorance but how can i go about converting it to freewheel instead? i’m using it for commuting, not tricks, hence the freewheel…

      May 5, 2009 at 9:14 am | #38

Hi Jeanette, the rear hub shld be a flip flop so just add a freewheel on the other side. But does the bike have brakes?

      • May 5, 2009 at 9:26 am | #39

        hey lynten,

yeah the bike has front and rear brakes.. i got the flat bar version. i’m such a chicken i know but the idea of skidding doesn’t attract me..!

could i drop by at your shop once it arrives and get your help with the freewheel? you do have freewheels in stock yes? :-)

Hi …. Got an on-one inbred rigid from you a few years ago. Thinking of turning it into a fat bike. Wondering if you could modify it to run on 26 x 3 tires?

2nd question, since my have a short inseam of 27 inches, would it be possible to build a fatbike from a Surly 1+1 14in frame? If so, how much is the estimated cost?

    Thanks.

    • trbikes
      May 28, 2009 at 5:31 am | #65

Hi Chih, think the widest the On-One can take will be 2.5. However, Surly has come out with their 11th anniversary 1 x 1. Have a look at their site at http://www.surlybikes.com under BIKES.

    August 26, 2009 at 6:34 pm | #119

    Hey,

Want to buy a fixie(surly steam roller) Cause it’s the cheapest. My height is 170cm.
I’ll be using the fixie just to ride around singapore and occasional trips to malaysia(once a year). I want stuff like the coloured chains and drop handle bars. Something like RepublicBikes

Are there different colour for the surly frames? or can i get another frame which is cheaper?
    Does $1250 include pedals?

Im quite price conscious cause am a poly student. Hope you can advise me as i checked out all the comments, you guys seem to know your stuff pretty well.

    Thanks in advance.

    • August 26, 2009 at 6:41 pm | #120

Hi Jeremy, the bike comes with drop bar already, cream or black only. If you are 170, then the 53 should fit. Why not come by the store to have a look and test ride? Think it will be easier.

  64. August 26, 2009 at 7:16 pm | #121

do u sell weave basket for road bikes?

    • August 26, 2009 at 7:27 pm | #122

We have weave baskets but not sure if they will fit a road bar. You will have to bike the bike down for us to have a look.

Hello . Thanks for the reply to my previous enquiry. Am keen to pay a visit to your shop to get a set of cog and spacers.

I am planning to join the growing singlespeed mountain biking interest(not common in singapore. bu definitely overseas). Do you have any recommended gear ratios for the back cog? I plan to use 32 front, but am considering a 20 by the back. What cogs do you currently carry?

Your dedication to this blog and singlespeeds/fixie is really something for me to admire about. :)

    • November 3, 2009 at 4:56 pm | #153

      • November 3, 2009 at 8:24 pm | #155

Hi, still little hard to tell you what sort of stem and bar combo as YOU have to decide what kind of riding position you want. We can definitely say you will need a quill stem, but as for bars, it will depend.

    November 11, 2009 at 4:41 pm | #163

    Hi,

I am thinking of converting my hybrid bike to a single speed.
Can it be done? How much would it cost?

    • November 11, 2009 at 7:49 pm | #164

Hi Zen, it will depend on how clean a look you want. If you run spacer kit with tensioner, it will be $70. If you want a clean look with no tensioner, then the only way to go is the white ind ECC ENO hub ($260), freewheel $35, new spokes $65 – but this will depend on whether your current wheel set is a 32H rims.

i wuz very happy to drive all the way to see your shop in jln batu, wanted to deal to buy wheelset, chain n hubs to complete 16 units of my oldskool bridestone, trek, raleigh carlton..but the boss wuz so arrogance ,so decided not to buy anything yet,i wanted to deal something with this shop coz now fixie is popular..i sell bikes in the net n own a bikeshop in klang.i use to buy parts from soon watt,L n T n lorong ah soo bmx..all of them gave good service…is the fixed bikeshop so snobish..i will check out a bike shop in waterloo street for fixie hubs n wheels ,hope there give good service..

    • December 25, 2009 at 1:54 am | #192

Hi, sorry if you find us snobbish, we tend to be this way when people who don’t do their home work properly come and ask silly questions and try to sell things just because it is THE IN THING now.
We take pride in our work and are not hard up to make money just for the sake of doing so. Advise is FREE, but we have to be selective in how we do our business.
We are NOT like most bike store who will sell anything to anyone just because………
Good that you sell bikes and own a bike store, but does that mean you know everything there is to know, we certainly don’t know EVERYTHING, we are still learning, but we do so on our own and do not expect others to spoon feed us.
We WILL NOT sell anything to someone who doesn’t know what they are selling, WHY, because we have a reputation, good or bad, we have to maintain a standard.
So, to you my ‘friend’, if you want us to sell you something, please do more research and come back with intelligent questions, don’t just be ‘another’ bike store that sells what is IN at the moment.
Do you even know if your stock of old school bikes can be converted into fixed gear? Are you going to tell your customers that they are converted or will you tell them the bikes are proper fixed bikes.
Please make sure you know what you are doing as we have seen some conversions which are bad accidents waiting to happen, do not jump on the band wagon to make fast money, just because its easy to do so.
By the way, we have sold quite a few things to some of the crews in KL and they know we don’t sell for the sake of selling.

      • December 26, 2009 at 12:05 am | #195

Hi Wong, it doesn’t matter if you have a 5 axis water jet cutter like the one in American Choppers. It may not be rocket science to build a fixie, but we don’t do for the just the sake of doing it. We went though a learning process and are still learning.
We do not post here that we are the BEST, but we try to make sure that everyone who gets a bike from us is HAPPY.
Yes, Taiwan is cheaper, by all means go and source from there, we are a small outfit and cannot afford their minimum quantities so have no plan to order direct from them.
Best of luck in your quest.

Hi, I’m quite interested in the white ind freewheel. Does it fit my formula flipflop hubs? I’m running a dicta freewheel at the moment. If it does, how much is the price including courier to KL? Cheers.

Hi Ajeeb, yes it will, what teeth count are you looking for? Shipping will depend on how quickly you need it. The freewheel alone is $155.
